TakingITGlobal & FAO seek a motivated, creative and outgoing young person with a passion for social development for the internship position of Social Media & Communications Intern. If you're interested in youth-led development, international cultural production, gaining experience in online media and working in a high-energy community this could be your ideal placement.
TakingITGlobal is an international organization, led by youth and enabled by technology. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, with a growing worldwide presence, the organization's flagship program is TakingITGlobal.org (www.tigweb.org), the most popular online community for young people interested in connecting across cultures and making a difference. The site receives more than two million hits per day, operates in 12 languages, and has a worldwide membership of over 290,000.
The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations leads international efforts to defeat hunger. Serving both developed and developing countries, FAO acts as a neutral forum where all nations meet as equals to negotiate agreements and debate policy. FAO is also a source of knowledge and information and helps developing countries and countries in transition modernize and improve agriculture, forestry and fisheries practices and ensure good nutrition for all.
We are looking for a Social Media & Communications Intern to work on a joint social media strategy with FAO at their Rome, Italy headquarters.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
o Researching and promoting TakingITGlobal and FAO opportunities on main online social networks and regional youth networks;
o Develop content for the launch of a Biodiversity sub-issue on TakingITGlobal’s Issues page;
o Joint resource development for educational resources;
o Regularly posting blog updates and press releases via the TakingITGlobal blogs and official FAO communication channels;
o Organize and facilitate a Live Chat on biodiversity on May 29th;
o Using the TakingITGlobal platform as a hub for International Year of Youth and International Year of Biodiversity activities;
o Building the organizations’ presence in key online media hubs, with an emphasis on the TakingITGlobal platform and YUNGA network and keeping track of media mentions;
o Assist with the writing and release of regular newsletter updates;
o Working closely with TakingITGlobal’s Multilingual Programs Manager and submitting regular updates and monthly reports;
o Keeping an active profile on the TakingITGlobal platform;
o Attending Multilingual team meetings on a monthly basis (virtually);
o Developing a final report with an outline of achievements, outcomes and recommendations to improve TakingITGlobal and FAO’s communication strategies;
o Research and select high-quality youth media content to be featured on the TakingITGlobal platform and FAO site;
o Other tasks, as need be.
Qualifications:
o Fully fluent in Italian and English (excellent writing skills and spoken fluency). Fluency means a high level of both writing and speaking (mother-tongue speakers are preferred). Experience living and working in a Italian-speaking, country an asset;
o Ability to work in a collaborative and virtual context;
o Involvement with youth organizations or other non-profit groups considered an asset;
o Experience with cultural and online communities an asset;
o Strong written and oral communications skills and excellent time-management skills;
o Interest or background in current affairs, international issues, social development, human rights, or intercultural dialogue;
o Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc), web-browsing and research, email use, etc. experience in multimedia production and editing;
o Ability to work from Rome, Italy at the FAO headquarters (includes visa/government permission to work from Italy and ability to cover living and working expenses);
o Ability to attend a virtual interview and training session;
o Ability to create and update online networking accounts and websites;
o Degree in environmental, communication or social studies an asset;
o Ablility to multitask and work in a fast-paced learning environment, adeptly managing multiple shifting priorities;
o Knowledge of other languages an asset;
o Involvement with youth organizations or other non-profit groups considered an asset;
o Experience or interest in intercultural dialogue an asset.

o At FAO you will be working in the Climate, Energy and Tenure Division, specifically for the Youth and United Nations Global Alliance (YUNGA), this will give you the opportunity to work and collaborate with numerous UN agencies and civil society organizations involved on projects related to climate change, food security and biodiversity.
