CHF is looking for a Lead Volunteer Coordinator in Calgary to support our growing Global Education Program. CHF’s Global Education program has over twenty years of experience in educating students and teachers in Canada about rural poverty and development issues. Our resources include lessons, videos and presentations in the classroom to raise awareness and involve students in improving the lives of the rural poor through sustainable livelihoods focused projects.
The Lead Volunteer Coordinator role provides an opportunity for you to build your leadership and coordination skills, as well as to develop experience for your resume while learning more about your community and international development.
Key Volunteer Responsibilities
Duties include recruiting, training and coordinating a growing number of volunteers within the Calgary area as CHF’s Global Education (GE) Program expands across Canada, as well as supporting the program in other ways. This volunteer position works under direct supervision of CHF’s Global Education Coordinator.

• Experience coordinating and motivating volunteers
• Skilled in planning and prioritizing work
• Able to work under pressure
• Strong interpersonal skills and able to work as a member of a team
• Strong sense of professionalism
• Strong presentation and facilitation skills
• Commitment to, and knowledge of, international development and global education
• Ability to travel within Canada
• Two years of university, prefer completion of undergraduate degree or equivalent
Time Commitments
• Approximately 10 hours per week, including some evenings and weekends. Additional hours during a few peak periods may be required.
• A 2-day Training Workshop at end of August/early September 2009
• A 2-day Lessons Learned Retreat in spring/early summer 2010
• Undertake volunteer coordination from end of August 2009 until June 2010
Field Visit Opportunity
In compensation for this extensive volunteer commitment, CHF will cover travel expenses for both the Training Workshop and Lessons Learned Retreat. As an added bonus, one Lead Volunteer will be chosen to visit a CHF project for a week-long field visit. The selected volunteer will be asked to do field research and gather the materials necessary to develop new Global Education Program materials. The selection criteria will be based on the volunteer’s role, commitment to Global Education and growth of the Global Education Program in their region. The chosen Lead Volunteer will also have their field visit expenses covered.
