TakingITGlobal is seeking a dynamic, insightful and well organized individual with a passion for youth engagement, international development and social change to act as a Fundraising Assistant Summer Intern. This individual will assist in supporting TakingITGlobal’s growth and sustainability. Working closely with the Relationship and Donor Development Steering Committee, program coordinators and other committed team members, the role is designed to help TIG achieve its mission of enabling a collaborative learning community which provides youth with access to global opportunities, cross cultural connections and meaningful participation through increasing the operating budget of the organization.

About TakingITGlobal

TakingITGlobal is an international organization lead by youth, empowered by technology. TakingITGlobal (TIG) connects youth from around the world to find inspiration, information and get involved in improving their local, regional and global communities.

TakingITGlobal enables a collaborative learning community which provides youth with access to global opportunities, cross cultural connections and meaningful participation in decision making by:

•Harnessing internet technologies to cultivate youth leadership and engagement in social issues
•Bridging the continuity gap that causes fragmentation between and within generations of youth movements.
•Championing the role of young people as key stakeholders in all aspects of society.

TakingITGlobal has approximately 20 staff and hundreds of volunteers around the world. Supporters include the Government of Canada, the McConnell Foundation and Gordon Foundation.


Roles and Responsibilities

• Research and Planning: Research and connect with potential supporters who have shared priorities with TakingITGlobal, an interest in youth, global education, media and technology. Assist in developing a two year fundraising plan based on both existing and future prospects, including a calendar of deadlines and documentation of relationships.

• Proposal Writing, Editing and Follow-up: Write proposals and letters of inquiry (both proactively and in response to Request for Proposals) for each fundable aspect of TakingITGlobal in coordination with the Executive Director and/or Program Managers. Ensure that they are submitted to potential donors in a targeted and coordinated manner. This may also involve scheduling meetings and making follow-up presentations. An initial focus in Canada and the United States as this is where TakingITGlobal has charitable status. Future applications can be submitted in other regions in collaboration with local partner organizations.

Qualifications
• Knowledge and experience in fundraising including proposal writing and reporting, preferably in the non-profit sector
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Ability to creatively and effectively articulate shared visions and concepts
• Ability to plan effectively and to contribute to the overall strategic development of new and existing programs in terms of key components, timelines and resources required
• Capability to work well both independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment with multiple priorities
• Willingness to learn new things and eagerness to acquire new skills
• High degree of professionalism and self confidence
• Ability to understand and work across cultures
• Fluency in French is considered to be a strong asset
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, online social networking tools and internet research
• Creative thinker and problem-solver who is able to manage and organize large amount of information
• Interest in and knowledge of international issues, human rights and development, with particular interests in youth engagement and information and communications technologies
Application Process:

This is a summer volunteer internship position taking place in our Toronto Office. The successful applicant will be available to complete the internship starting June 29th and ending on August 14, 2009 and can intern for at least 24 hours weekly. A travel stipend may be available upon request. Applicants must be able to work legally in Canada. The deadline to apply is July 3rd, 2009.
