Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting one Youth Innovator for a partner capacity building project in Accra, Ghana.

This exciting Youth Innovator opportunity will include a pre-project distance-learning program, followed by an intensive six-week placement in Accra starting February, 2014. While in country, the Youth Innovator will provide technical expertise to YCI’s field staff and the Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health.

Partner Organization Information:
The Ghana Coalition of NGOs in Health (GCNH) is a reputable not-for-profit Civil Society Organization (CSO) established in 2000. It serves as an umbrella organization and coordinating body for the activities of all registered NGOs/CBOs in the Ghana Health Sector. GCNH currently has a membership of over 500 registered local civil society organizations. The objectives of the coalition include but are not limited to; promoting health sector research for sustainable health development in Ghana, empowering member organizations to deliver standard public health services in communities, providing a forum for NGOs/CBOs in the health sector to carry out evidence based advocacy and campaigns to improve the general state of health of all Ghanaians.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide general Social Media and Communications support
• Assist in the collaborative process to produce the Quarterly Newsletter
• Maintain and enhance the existing functionality of the GCNH website
• Conduct relevant trainings for partner staff (highlighted by the partner organization) based on the various strategy priorities
• Complete final report to inform future groups and partner staff

Your Skills and Experience:
• Demonstrated experience in the communications field and creating/implementing communications strategies
• Advanced computer proficiency with a very strong IT skill set
• Experience in facilitating trainings and workshops
• Strong research, writing and editing skills
• Experience working with grassroots organizations
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Prior cross-cultural experience and strong inter-cultural communication skills
• University degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field

Fundraising Goal:
YCI volunteers are required to fundraise and/or contribute a minimum of $600 for these projects to contribute towards YCI’s global youth development programs.

What’s Covered:
• Preparatory support and pre-project distance learning
• In-country orientation
• Modest homestay accommodation and food
• In-country work-related travel
• Comprehensive emergency travel medical insurance

What’s Not Covered:
• Airfare
• Personal expenses
• Visa fees
• Supplemental travel medical insurance
• Participants will be expected obtain the required vaccinations and take anti-malarials at their own expense
