Youth Challenge International is seeking an energetic and motivated young person with exceptional public speaking skills and a passion for social development to fulfill our Public Engagement Assistant Internship.

Youth Challenge International is a leading global youth development organization that promotes youth innovation to drive positive change. Building on 25 years of experience, our programs are designed to meet the needs of youth affected by poverty through four integrated sectors: leadership, health, livelihoods and the environment. We engage youth in creating solutions to the challenges they face, incorporating youth development, volunteerism, partnership, and equity into all that we do. Our projects are currently located in Africa, Central and South America.

Reporting to the Director of Program Development, the Public Engagement Assistant will be responsible for:

Public Engagement & Outreach (30%):
• Maintain relationships with YCI University contacts and execute YCI’s University Engagement Strategy
• Pursue opportunities for YCI to develop relationships with University Alumni Offices
• Coordinate and support YCI fundraising events
• Coordinate and attend recruitment fairs, including public engagement and speaking opportunities at conferences, universities, and secondary schools.
• Collaborate with staff to further YCI’s presence in national campaigns.

Alumni Engagement (30%):
• Coordinate YCI’s Youth Writers and Youth Speakers program
• Coordinate YCI’s Promotional Representative program
• Curate job opportunities for YCI’s international development listserv
• Develop a workshop series designed to help alumni find employment (job search, resume editing, etc.)
• Monitor, analyze and track performance of the alumni engagement program

Recruitment (15%):
• Support ongoing recruitment campaigns

New Business Development (25%):
• Support new business development efforts, including research to support concept papers and proposal development
• Proof read, edit and format all submission materials
• Other duties, as necessary

Recommended Skills and Experience:
• Post-secondary degree in relevant discipline
• Experience working in public engagement or on youth mobilization campaigns
• Strong project management skills and a keen attention to detail
• Excellent communication and public speaking skills
• Outgoing, energetic, and passionate
• Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision
• Creativity and flexibility
• Demonstrated interest, knowledge or experience in non-profits and/or international development
