Title: Social Media & Communications Assistant (Intern)
Location: Toronto
Duration: Full time, 4-month contract with vacation
Compensation: Unpaid

Youth Challenge International is seeking a motivated and creative young person with a passion for social development to fulfill our Social Media and Communications internship placement.

Youth Challenge International is a leading global youth development organization that promotes youth innovation to drive positive change. Building on 25 years of experience, YCI’s programs are designed to meet the needs of youth affected by poverty through four integrated sectors: leadership, health, livelihoods and the environment.

Reporting to the Director of Program Development, the Social Media & Communications Intern will be responsible for:

Social Media (40%):
• Edit social media content, both generating content and coordinating contributed content while maintaining a consistent tone of voice across social media platforms
• Research, schedule and execute content in line with YCI’s social media strategies (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube)
• Interact with audiences’ daily and increase audience engagement
• Produce, manage and edit content for YCI’s blog
• Monitor, analyze and track metrics for YCI’s social media platforms and blog
• Research new platforms for online engagement
• Participate in creative brainstorming sessions

Communications (40%):
• Maintain and update the YCI website
• Regularly post blog updates and press releases on the YCI website
• Coordinate and track YCI’s e-blasts through Constant Contact
• Write copy for volunteer recruitment and communications pieces
• Archive and screen incoming photos from the field
• Perform similar duties as requested

Recruitment (20% of time):
• Support ongoing recruitment efforts

Skills and Experience:
• Experience working with social media and web content (Twitter, Facebook, Wordpress, YouTube and Pinterest)
• Excellent communications and writing skills. Should have knowledge of internet, web trends and best practices
• Proven ability to pay attention to detail
• Creative and flexible
• Demonstrated interest, knowledge or experience in non-profits and/or international development
• Experience in video production and editing an asset
