Education Resource Developer - DeforestACTION
Reporting to DeforestACTION Team Members Sara Hassan and Chris Gauthier, the Educational Resource Developer will work to expand the online educational resources available for primary and/or secondary school levels in the DeforestACTION
This part-time virtual volunteer opportunity is perfect for a student or recent graduate in the field of education and/or youth development. Our ideal candidate is passionate about employing technology to support global, action-oriented learning, and has strong writing, editing and communication skills. Position: Education Resource Developer (2-3 positions)
Position Location: Virtual
Start Date: August 2012
Details: 10 hours p/week
Duration: 2 months, with the possibility of renewal

Roles and Responsibilities
Expand and Develop DeforestACTION Educational Resources
Create learning activities and lesson plans for primary and/or secondary school levels:
Ensure that all entries are linked to deforestation and its connection to larger environmental issues, and highlight activities support 21st skills development
Establish which subjects and grade levels are well covered and create new educational resources where gaps exist
Outreach for Content Partnerships
Work to establish content partnerships with organizations that offer free global and environmental educational resources:
Research and outreach to potential partners via email, phone and/or post
Review partner educational content for posting on DeforestACTION website
General
Actively participate in DeforestACTION team meetings, sharing thoughts, ideas, and suggestions as they arise
Share interesting education related articles, news items, and resources with the team
Maintain regular communication with DeforestACTION team members
Prepare a handover note
Requirements
Academic or experiential background in education
Strong interest in technology, environmental education, and youth development
Goal oriented, and able to work with minimal supervision
Strong writing and editing skills with high attention to detail
Effective time management and organizational skills
Strong interpersonal skills and can-do attitude
Assets
Teaching certification and/or curriculum development experience
Experience working and/or volunteering in the nonprofit sector
Significant interest in youth-related issues and experience working with young people from a wide variety of cultures
Proficiency in a language other than English
