TakingITGlobal is an international organization, driven by youth and empowered by technology. TIG brings together young people in more than 200 countries within international networks to connect to opportunities and collaborate on projects addressing global challenges and creating positive change.
TakingITGlobal is a stimulating, positive, and innovative work environment. In the heart of downtown Toronto near King and University, our youthful office is a friendly yet fast-paced international environment.
Our flagship network, tigweb.org is a one-stop resource for youth interested in global issues. The site receives more than one million hits per day, with a membership of over 200,000. The site is built upon a sophisticated custom-built technical platform.
TIG has become a social network of youth networks for social change and supports a range of issue-based networks (ranging from climate change to HIV/AIDS), language-based networks (the site is currently in 12 languages), and place-based networks (through city sites and country sties)
TakingITGlobal is providing technology support to the youth sector, powering the websites and database needs of networks such as Global Youth Service Day, the Youth Employment Summit, Peace Child International, Oxfam, Greenpeace and United Nations Associations.
TakingITGlobal has approximately 20 staff based in Toronto and an additional 20 staff who work part-time in different parts of Canada and around the world as well as hundreds of volunteers. Supporters include the Government of Canada, the McConnell Foundation and Gordon Foundation.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
•Recruitment, training, motivation, supervision and support for online volunteer positions in coordination with Volunteer Management Assistants, and in-office positions in coordination with HR Manager for the TIG website
•Ongoing preparation and updating of orientation and support materials in coordination with the Online Community Coordinator
•Oversee Coordination efforts of Online Volunteer Team Coordinators and volunteer teams in their 6 month goals and track milestones
•Oversee support of the efforts of the Online Volunteer Team Coordinators in: content solicitation, translation, and approval; platform facilitation and moderation, and multi-level promotions
•Develop and update comprehensive orientation and effective management policies for TakingITGlobal online volunteers
•Editorial oversight of Panorama Zine and coordination of featured issues (with Panorama Managing Editor)
•Support the development and evolution of the tigweb.org platform in launched and ‘unlaunched’ languages
•Periodically evaluate the impact and health across the various platforms, and propose measures to improve overall operations
•Coordinate regular meetings with Online Volunteer teams
•Ensure maintained volunteer presence and recognition in the tigweb.org online community
•Oversee Periodical updates of the Volunteer and Multilingual Pages, particularly with TIGStar Awards and staff updates
•Working with Language Coordinators to ensure that content submitted in various languages are reviewed/approved
