Position: Online Community Facilitator
Position Location: Toronto, Ontario

Details: 20 hours per week (16 in-office and 4 from home)

About TakingITGlobal:
TakingITGlobal is an international organization, driven by youth and empowered by technology. TIG brings together young people in more than 200 countries within international networks to connect to opportunities and collaborate on projects addressing global challenges and creating positive change.
TakingITGlobal is a stimulating, positive, and innovative work environment. In the heart of downtown Toronto near King and University, our youthful office is a friendly yet fast-paced international environment.
Our flagship network, tigweb.org is a one-stop resource for youth interested in global issues. The site receives more than one million hits per day, with a membership of over 200,000. The site is built upon a sophisticated custom-built technical platform.
TIG has become a social network of youth networks for social change and supports a range of issue-based networks (ranging from climate change to HIV/AIDS), language-based networks (the site is currently in 12 languages), and place-based networks (through city sites and country sties)
TakingITGlobal is providing technology support to the youth sector, powering the websites and database needs of networks such as Global Youth Service Day, the Youth Employment Summit, Peace Child International, Oxfam, Greenpeace and United Nations Associations.
TakingITGlobal has approximately 20 staff based in Toronto and an additional 20 staff who work part-time in different parts of Canada and around the world as well as hundreds of volunteers. Supporters include the Government of Canada, the McConnell Foundation and Gordon Foundation.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Content Curation & Animation:
•Oversight of content approval across various site sections, ensuring that quality content is approved, guidelines are updated, inappropriate content is declined, response-time does not lag
•Editing content submissions to meet grammar and spelling requirements
•Highlighting content submissions by featuring resources that are relevant and interesting to TIG membership
•Regular communication with TIG members globally by keeping in touch with active members, encouraging those less active, etc.
•Coordinate contests designed to engage members overall for various site sections (ie Global Gallery, Panorama); this includes preparing communications materials
Communications & Promotions:
•Maintain and update TIGweb.org’s various social media accounts
•Preparation of newsletters in coordination with the Online Community Communications Assistant, as well as with various team members, to ensure relevant, quality content reflecting diverse regions and language inputs.
•Managing regular internal communication with members (ie. Spotlights, Blogs, press releases, comments, discussion boards, etc.)
•Consulting appropriate stakeholders when issues arise to ensure that sensitive issues are addressed (liaising with Member Advisory Committee to assist in this process)
•Maintain an active profile and TIG Blog with content that fits within the TIGweb.org vision and mission
•Oversee discussion board moderation with a focus on responding to sensitive issues that emerge
•Work with Online Community Volunteer Coordinator to promote monthly Panorama issue themes and monitor content submission in coordination with the Panorama Managing Editor
•Draft, edit and update website copy for new, updated and existing areas of TIGweb.org
•Update relevant international day pages to reflect current celebratory activities that will be undertaken on the TIG platform
•Represent TIG at various events including conferences, panels, recruitment fairs, community organization events, etc.
Member Services
•Oversight of general inquiry e-mails sent to member services and other intranet e-mail accounts to ensure timely response (directly implemented by administrator and/or other volunteers trained for this role)
•Liaising with tech team to ensure bugs are addressed to ensure reliability of TIGweb.org
