1. Introduction
The Commonwealth Youth Programme (CYP) Asia Centre based in Chandigarh, India, is one of four regional CYP Centres of the Commonwealth Secretariat, London, UK and is the youth development and empowerment wing of the Secretariat. It is one of the pioneer international, intergovernmental agencies devoted entirely to youth development. The CYP Asia Centre is responsible for implementing youth development initiatives in eight Asian member countries; Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Singapore and Sri Lanka. CYP’s key partner institution in each country is the respective ministry of youth affairs. CYP’s vision exemplifies the principles of the Commonwealth, including democracy, human rights, freedom of expression, gender equity and good governance.
The CYP Asia Centre has three strategic programme areas: 1) Governance, Development and Youth Networks (GDYN), 2) Youth Enterprise and Sustainable Livelihoods (YESL), 3) Youth Work Education and Training (YWET).

The Commonwealth Youth Programme, Asia Centre, runs an internship programme that ensures young people’s participation in the organization’s planning and implementation processes, and which provides young people an opportunity to broaden their professional horizons in youth development.

The CYP Asia Centre now requires an intern for the Youth Work Education and Training Unit. The unit’s specific functions include provision of quality assurance support for the CYP’s Diploma in Youth Development run by seven universities in six countries, and advocating for the professionalization of the youth work sector.

The expected functions of the Youth Work Education and Training intern would be:

• Support the YWET programme manager in conducting and coordinating primary and secondary research in youth work and youth work education.
• Support in documentation to complement professionalizing youth work advocacy efforts.
• Support in coordinating quality assurance and other support for the Commonwealth Youth Programme Diploma in Youth Development.

Guidance will be provided by the YWET programme manager and Regional Director on all functions assigned to the intern.

2. Work Hours, Duration of Internship, and Work Station

The intern is required to work eight hours a day five days a week and shall report to the Manager, Youth Work Education and Training. The duration of an internship is usually one year from the date of commencement.

The work station is Chandigarh, India.

3. Competencies and Qualifications

• At least a BA, preferably an MA in youth studies, development studies, or a related area.
• Demonstrated interest in youth work, development studies or a related field.
• Excellent analytical and English writing skills
• Ability to engage in collaborative work with Ministries, civil society and other stakeholders.
• Sensitivity to a rights-based approach to programming, research and engaging with young people.

4. Age and Citizenship

• Applicants are required to be between 21-29 years of age.
• Applicants from the Commonwealth Asia countries of Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Pakistan, Singapore and Sri Lanka may apply.

5. Remuneration and other benefits

Remuneration will be based on qualification: A candidate with BA qualifications will receive INR 10,000 a month, if with MA will receive INR 12,000 a month and if with a PhD will receive INR 15,000 a month.

For the selected candidate, hostel facilities will be provided within the Commonwealth Youth Programme Campus free of charge, with a nominal charge for food.

Applicants shortlisted for the post will be required to face a time-bound written test and subsequent Skype interview.
