About About

Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD) is a non-profit working to reduce global poverty by providing over 300 grassroots community partners with training and key resources to address pressing socioeconomic issues.

The FSD Intern Abroad training program is highly immersive, bringing students, professionals, and retirees on-site to support critical initiatives. Rather than work on aid-based, short-term projects, participants collaborate with community partners to enhance local capacity to address health, social, environmental, and economic issues.

All programs include: orientation, family homestay, language and grassroots development trainings, seed Grant + access to additional funding for strong projects, hands-on project development experience, debriefing sessions and cultural activities.

Internships run year-round for 9 to 52 weeks, depending on your time schedule and the breadth of experience you wish to attain. The structured program consists of several components that prepare and provide you with the support and guidance needed to implement successful projects in a sustainable manner.

We partner with more than 300 community-based organizations which provide a range of opportunities in Micro-Enterprise/Microfinance, Health, Environment, Youth and Education, Women’s Empowerment, Community Development and Human Rights.

Our partner organizations work in and around 10 sites in Argentina, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Kenya, Uganda and India.

Your skills and interests will be matched with the organization that provides the best opportunity for you to effectively contribute to the community.

The structured program consists of several components that prepare and provide you with the support and guidance needed to implement successful projects in a sustainable manner. Your internship will involve the following elements to insure that the work makes a lasting impact on you and the community you serve.
